Time is flying, my darlings....
And here we already are at the Libra New Moon which will be exact this Saturday 9/28 at 11:26 am PDT.
This is the first New Moon since our entrance into the season of Fall here in the Northern Hemisphere, which was made official by the Autumnal Equinox last Monday 9/23. The Equinoxes (Autumnal in the Fall and Vernal in the Spring) as you know mark the time of year when we are experiencing equal day and night. Interestingly, with the Autumnal Equinox the theme of equality and balance is in a sense more pronounced, for we are IN the sign of Libra, and Libra IS the sign of balance.Pop astrology tends to depict Libra as the Domestic Goddess who excels at being social, hosting parties, interior decorating, the arts, and being both docile and a flirt (sugar with just enough spice). But a deeper look into the Libra Goddess archetype reveals a far more interesting, powerful and multi-layered energy at play. Libra and Taurus are both ruled by planet Venus, and both showcase two sides of her nature. Taurus represents earthy Venus, luxuriating in the experience of being in the body, slowed down to the rhythm of sensuality, attracting money, pleasure and structural security. In Libra, we see the more spiritual Venus (air element) who is both relational and on a quest for divine union with “other." Libra’s symbol is the scales, representing the values of justice and equality. The Egyptian Goddess Ma’at is a powerful representation of the Libra Goddess energy. Ma’at is in charge of the sacred scale that weighs the heart of every being against the feather of truth as they are passing into the afterlife. In this way, Ma'at is much like a feminine version of Saturn, holding us accountable to the divine laws and revealing our karma.
Astrologer Divine Harmony (who also connects Libra to the Goddess Ma’at) has pointed out the interesting balance that Libra holds between the sign of Virgo (the Virgin) and Scorpio (the Underworld/Shadow).
Both the glyphs for Virgo and Scorpio look like the letter M - but the Virgo M curls back on itself while the Scorpio M shows a protruding arrow.
Virgo represents that commitment to the pure light of sovereign self, while Scorpio represents the deep dive into the darkness within, all that we fear, and becoming sexually awakened. Libra straddles this dichotomy with the scales of truth and justice.
As I’ve mentioned in my last post and others, shadow Libra is co-dependent, chameleon-like and can’t make decisions for herself because she is placing the very understanding of her wants and needs outside of herself. But integrated Libra embraces the full spectrum of her being, all of her light and all of her dark. She connects with the Virgo purity as well as the Scorpio underbelly. She uses her powers of discernment with a heart centered in love and understanding, not in fear or lack of self-reliance. This New Moon is planting seeds for what we will be harvesting in 6 months, at the time of the Libra Full Moon during Aries season after we have crossed the threshold into Spring (Again, it is so fascinating that the Southern Hemisphere is entering into their Springtime now as we are shifting into Fall... Here is Mother Earth in her eternal dance of balance and equilibrium, revealing her Maiden glory ascension in the Southern Hemisphere while at the same time unveiling herself as the Crone High Priestess in the Northern Hemisphere within the Autumn descent) So, while this is quite different than an eclipse portal, this Equinox New Moon does give us a practical way to use this time to LAND - PAUSE - AND RESET. The times of equal day and night bring us to a zero point, and there is a desire for moments of stillness just to feel this equilibrium.
Right now, we are standing at the threshold of a new lunar cycle that will carry us all the way to lunar Samhain on 10/27 (opening a potent portal to communicate beyond the veil that will remain very strong through 11/8).
There is a sense that there will soon be a “quickening” - the weather will get colder, many of us will fall into the busy-ness of preparing for the holidays, the news is telling us that the world has gone mad, and yet - the real transformation is happening at the level of the soul.
We might feel anticipation and excitement, we might feel uneasy, we might feel like burying our head in the sand.
But we know for certain - change is coming.
This New Moon reveals Moon + Sun together at 5 degrees Libra - directly opposite retrograde Chiron the Shamanic Healer at 3 degrees Aries.
Chrion has been firmly planted in Aries since last March, and he’ll be here until 2027. He’s got LOTS OF TIME to work on us in this area of our charts, and for the collective he is helping us heal our wounding related to war, the masculine, individuation, aggression and inner-fire (all Aries related themes).
The opposition of Sun and Moon with Chiron on the day of the Libra New Moon is noteworthy.
How are we being called to face and heal our relationship with ourselves WITHIN our relationships with others?
What are our coping skills/defense mechanisms within intimacy and relationships?
How are we being called to get right with SELF (Aries) when our tendency might be to “find ourself” in others? (shadow Libra)
At the same time of this New Moon, we also have Black Moon Lilith (representing the shadow feminine and repressed emotions) CONJUNCT Neptune at 16 degrees Pisces. Neptune is the planet of higher spirituality and high magic, non-dualism and transcending the earthbound experience. He is the modern ruler of Pisces, so quite at home and quite strong here. Neptune moves quite slowly… (he’s been on top of my Natal Moon in Pisces for almost 2 years now) - but he is always up to something. Not in the quick-witted, wily way that Mercury sometimes is (especially while retrograde) - instead the Neptune mischief is happening behind the scenes. While you’re not looking, Neptune is busy dissolving the precision and clarity that you have built your paradigms on. Next thing you know, the road map disappeared and you are lost in a fog. Shadow Neptune is a trickster, and he can and will lead you astray - until you take back the reigns and assert your will to do otherwise.
When Neptune is paired with Black Moon Lilith, this can be a recipe for major deception and denial of the shadow within you, a relationship or the collective. The conjunction in the sign of Pisces increasing the tendency toward addiction and escapism, because Pisces feels everything and when the energetic boundaries aren’t in place - feeling everything just feels like too much.
Black Moon Lilith is the feral feminine and everything that is considered taboo about the feminine, everything we fear about the feminine. She is dangerous, but also very alluring. She is seductive, but also ruthless. Sexual energy runs high with Black Moon Lilith, and the partnership with Neptune can be taken into an exalted expression of Union though Sex Magic, but this is a path that requires immense self-mastery, humility and discernment. Many who are drawn to the idea of Sex Magic are not even close to the kind of inner-alignment that the sacred ritual requires.
If the Neptunian energy is being channeled through lower/denser vibrations, it will lead to fantasy, illusion and escapism. Black Moon Lilith is especially dangerous when paired with the desire to escape/check-out. Use the darkness of Black Moon Lilith at this New Moon to wake you UP from illusion, rather that put you back to sleep.
Meanwhile, we still have Saturn the planet of karma tightly conjunct the south node of karmic release in the sign of Capricorn.
Pluto, the lord of the Underworld, is nearby and currently retrograde. Pluto will be stationing direct in just a few days on 10/2, and if you are a Capricorn or Scorpio (Pluto rules Scorpio) or if you have planets/pivotal points on or around 20 degrees of any of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) - the days around Pluto stationing direct could feel PRETTY HEAVY. Any time a planet stations (retrograde or direct) the energy can feel denser, thicker, heavier. But Pluto is considered to be one of the most (if not THE most) HEAVY-HITTING planet — making us face the shadows in ourselves that we wanted to hide from forever and essentially taking us on the journey of spiritual death and resurrection.
On a positive note, we have Venus in Libra forming a beautiful sextile with Jupiter in Sagittarius - both at 17 degrees of their respective signs. This is simply delightful, for while Venus and Jupiter always get along great (they are the two “benefics” of the Zodiac, supporting us wherever they go), they are currently each in their home sign and doubly strong. Libra (cardinal air) and Sagittarius (mutable fire) know how to have FUN together - and Venus (Goddess of Creativity + Fertility) is well supported in any projects that are beginning at this time.
NEW MOON RITUAL SUGGESTIONS
(best performed the night before or the night of the New Moon for maximum potency) - Sit in a darkened room with a single lit candle (choose candle color based on what you seek to invoke: green for new beginnings and healing, white for purification, black for grounding and deep release, red for the root chakra, pink for healing the heart and sexual healing, orange for committing to your personal power, blue for speaking your truth, purple for spiritual awakening...the list goes on!) - Meditate on your intentions for this lunar cycle (feel your feelings, face yourself, let go of any "stories" that cage you into a limited way of being) - Reflect upon the Libra qualities of being relational and seeking beauty + harmony, as well as the shadow Libra qualities of co-dependency and self-denial. (if you know which house Libra rules in your chart, reflect on that area of life and notice what "characters" - i.e. planets/points - are at play here) - Imagine for a few moments what your life could look like in 6 months, at the time of our Vernal Equinox and the beginning of Springtime in the northern hemisphere. How do you want to feel? What do you want to be doing? What do you want your relationships to look like and feel like? (Be as descriptive as possible and jot a few notes down or make a little voice recording so you can bear witness to your own intentions) - Journal or speak aloud a few things you feel thankful for in your life NOW. It doesn't matter how small or seemingly insignificant these things are. In fact - sometimes honing in our gratitude on the small things creates a BIGGER shift into inner-alignment than needing the BIG THINGS to practice giving thanks. - Close your ritual with sentiments of appreciation, any prayers that feel to come forth - or my favorite:
DANCING TO SOME TRIBAL MUSIC
You can jot down your New Moon and/or 6-month intentions and bury them in the earth, burn them - or tuck them away in a special "Moon Box" where you can return to reflect on your journey and your powers of manifestation.
May this New Moon in Libra reveal to you the beauty of who you already are - in relation to others, but most importantly in relation to yourself.
I leave you with a section of the Navajo prayer "Walk in Beauty"
Through the returning seasons, may I walk.
On the trail marked with pollen may I walk.
With dew about my feet, may I walk.
With beauty before me may I walk.
With beauty behind me may I walk.
With beauty below me may I walk.
With beauty above me may I walk.
With beauty all around me may I walk.
In old age wandering on a trail of beauty, lively, may I walk.
In old age wandering on a trail of beauty, living again, may I walk.
My words will be beautiful…
